About me

My approach, background and training

My name is Dr Susan Clompus. I am a UKCP trainee therapist practising in Bristol, in person and online.

My approach

My practice incorporates a mindfulness-based psychodynamic approach that places compassion and kindness at the heart of the relationship between therapist and client, where you can be listened to, understood and validated.

I seek to create a safe, empathic and nonjudgmental space for you to explore whatever you are currently working through. I aim to help you understand your experience and explore your feelings and emotions. By bringing these into awareness, you may be able to identify what could be needed to thrive and heal.

Background and training

I bring a wealth of experience to my psychotherapy practice, alongside my interest in mindfulness and aspects of Buddhism. I initially trained as an adult nurse in the 1980s, then went on to complete a Social Science degree and a Masters in Sociology. I have worked as a nurse in a range of settings, as a lecturer in Further Education, and latterly as a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at universities for the past 17 years.

I currently combine my private practice with my part-time University role. My thesis for my Doctorate in Health and Social Care focused on “Paramedics and Resilience.” As a result of my PhD, I have a particular interest in working with health and social care professionals experiencing burnout and difficulties working in the sector - though I am open to working with a range of clients of all ages and from diverse backgrounds.

My training in Core Process Psychotherapy has taken over four years. It’s a mindfulness-based, psycho-spiritual therapy that combines Eastern Buddhist principles with Western psychotherapeutic theory.

I am a trainee member of UKCP.

Outside the therapy room

I am a mother and grandmother, and I enjoy creative activities, yoga, Pilates and travel. I travel a lot in Greece, as I love the nature and beauty of the Greek landscape.
